Four Teens Face Charges For SuperGlue Prank

Investigators Say All Suspects Admitted To Vandalism

Four teens are facing charges for allegedly causing more than $10,000 worth of damage at an El Dorado County high school by using SuperGlue on every lock on campus.

SuperGlue Lock

All the suspects, who are 16 or 17 years old, are accused using the glue to seal more than 150 locks to every door and gate at Union Mine High School in the town of El Dorado.

"The locks are all filled with SuperGlue. And any of our efforts to soak them in different acetones have not worked. So, we're replacing them," said school Principal Carl Fickle.

All the suspects were cited by the sheriff's department, then released to the custody of their parents. Authorities said that they all admitted to the vandalism. One teen is a current student at the school, and two others were students there in the past.

"Some of them are former students that have been either suspended or some sort of action like that taken. And obviously, that plays into the role as well," said El Dorado County Sheriff's Department spokesman Lt. Kevin House.

The teens face charges of felony vandalism, conspiracy and trespassing.

Investigators said the teens went to a Wal-Mart store in the town of Diamond Springs and purchased its entire supply of SuperGlue. The teens also bought supplies at some Sacramento County stores, according to authorities.

"This was a plan that the students have actually been working on for a month, and they did a pretty thorough job of equipping themselves with, I think I heard, something like 60 tubes of SuperGlue," Fickle said.

The school estimates the damage is more than $10,000, which could have an impact on the possible punishment for the teens and possibly their parents.
