POSTED: 11:53 am EST March 5, 2004

The Toronto Raptors on Friday signed veteran guard Rod Strickland for the remainder of the season. As per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.

Strickland played 46 games this season for the Orlando Magic, averaging 6.8 points, 4.0 assists and 19.9 minutes. He was waived by the club on March 1.

The 37-year old was originally selected in the first round (19th overall) of the 1988 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks. The 16-year veteran has appeared in 1,063 career games with New York, San Antonio, Orlando, Portland, Washington, Miami and Minnesota.

Strickland is expected to be in uniform on Friday night when the Raptors host the Knicks.

In a related move, the Raptors released guard Jannero Pargo. Pargo, who signed with Toronto last month, averaged 3.6 points, 1.3 assists and 14.2 minutes in five games with the Raptors.
