TRPA Sets New Rules For Tree Cutting In Tahoe Area

POSTED: 1:41 pm PST November 28, 2007
UPDATED: 2:09 pm PST November 28, 2007

Local authorities in the Tahoe area have taken their biggest step to reduce fire danger since this summer's devastating Angora fires.

By a vote of 12 to 1 on Wednesday, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency decided to change the rules for what trees property owners can cut down.

The change increases the tree diameter from 6 inches to 14 inches for trees that can be cut on a person's property without a special permit.

Opponents of the measure said they worry it will lead to clear cutting around the basin that could hurt the beautiful views that Tahoe is known for.

On Wednesday at 5 p.m., KCRA 3 will hear from Tahoe residents and see what they think about the change.
