GRANITE BAY, Calif. -- A mother accused of drowning her newborn baby girl in Granite Bay over the weekend remained in isolation in jail on Monday and was under 24-hour surveillance, the Placer County Sheriff's Department said.Kristina Fuelling, 27, was arrested on suspicion of homicide on Sunday and is being held without bail, a requirement set for state law.Fuelling may be arraigned on Wednesday, but the hearing may be delayed, Lt. Jeff Ausnow said.
Authorities were called to a home Sunday morning, where they found 8-day-old Faith Evelyn Fuelling not breathing.Rescuers tried to perform life-saving measures before the baby was transported to the Sutter Roseville Medical Center.Hospital officials said they pronounced the infant dead at 7:20 a.m., Ausnow said.An autopsy on the baby has not been carried out, but may occur later this week, Ausnow added.
