Sources tell KCRA 3 that Sacramento has been selected as the host city for the first stage of the 2009 Amgen Tour of California bike race.

The event, which traditionally visits several California cities, features some of the best cyclists in the world.

Previously, Sausilito hosted the start of the first stage of the race.

The formal announcement is expected to be made July 23.

The tour also made stops in Sacramento earlier this year and in 2007.

Levi Leipheimer of Santa Rosa won the tour this year and in 2007.
