3 Teens Missing Again; Man Faces Charges

Girls, Boy Earlier Found In Manteca Motel

Police on Tuesday were searching for two Nevada girls and a Manteca boy reported missing again after deputies found them early Monday with a man in a motel.

The sisters, who are 13 and 15 years old, and the 16-year-old boy may now be on their way toward Oregon, said Deputy Les Garcia, spokesman for the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department.

Gardnerville, Nev., resident Jeffrey Alan Palmer, 40, remained in jail Tuesday and faces possible charges of child abduction and contributing to the delinquency of a minor after the teenagers were discovered with him in the motel room, Garcia said.

Authorities said the girls were allegedly picked up by Palmer from Gardnerville on Saturday night. They then traveled together to California.

Local deputies received a report from some parents in Manteca that their 16-year-old son was planning to meet up with the two girls.

Authorities said it was unclear how the boy first got in contact with the girls.

"The information is still skethcy," Garcia said.

Garcia said deputies looking for the Ford Expedition possibly driven by Palmer began searching at local motels.

A vehicle that matched the description was found at a motel in the 100 block of Northwoods Avenue. Deputies spoke to the clerk and found that Palmer was registered at the motel.

Palmer answered when deputies knocked on the motel room door.

Deputies could see open bottles of alcoholic beverages located on the nightstand between the two beds, along with open bottles of alcoholic beverages located on the bathroom counter. There were alcoholic beverages located in the refrigerator, Garcia said.

Police removed all three of the teenagers from the motel. The girls were taken to a safe house to await the arrival of family members, while the boy was returned to his parents.

Garcia said the girls left the safe house and the boy fled from his parents' home.
