Couple Accused In Fast Food Robbery Spree

A case of love and larceny that spanned more than 1,100 miles has ended with a teenage runaway locked up in a Modesto jail, police said.

Samuel Ramirez and his 16-year-old girlfriend are accused of committing seven robberies at fast-food restaurants starting in Oakdale and ending in Texas, officials said.

Ramirez and his girlfriend -- both former McDonald's employees -- allegedly started their Bonnie and Clyde-esque crime spree by robbing a McDonald's in Oakdale at the drive-thru, police said.

"They stole money but not enough in terms of gas and food expenses to get all the way to Texas, so you had other robberies that were involved,"Oakdale Police Chief Marty West said.

The two then allegedly headed east: robbing two more McDonald's in Arizona, two McDonald's in New Mexico and two more McDonalds and a Jack In The Box in Texas, authorities said.

The couple was nabbed during a routine traffic stop just miles away from the Mexico border.

The girl was identified as a runaway and was sent back to Oakdale, police said.

Ramirez faces armed robbery charges in Texas.

The 16-year-old girl may face charges in California and three other states, officials said.
