CARMICHAEL, Calif. -- The only survivor of a police helicopter crash that killed two sheriff's deputies is making a $250,000 donation to the trauma center that helped save his life. The chopper, which was carrying three deputies, crashed in July 2005 near Lake Natoma, leaving Deputy Eric Henrickson with serious injuries.Joseph Kievernagel and Kevin Blount were killed in the crash.
Henrickson spent months in intensive care in Mercy San Juan Medical Center, and his rehabilitation took much longer."I'm lucky to be here and I can think of nothing better than donating this money so that I can make this hospital a little bit better," said Henrickson, who no longer works in law enforcement.Henrickson has no memory of the crash and is now on permanent disability. He said he is continuing his therapy and recovery and is planning to get married soon. Some of the donated money will be spent for trauma nurses, with the remainder spent on the trauma unit as needed.
