FAIRFIELD, Calif. -- The Fairfield City Council will appoint someone to fill a seat that was left empty after the killing of Councilman Matt Garcia.Garcia, 22, was shot in the head Sept. 1 while visiting a friend in Cordelia, police said. No arrests have been made in the case.The council said it will begin taking applications Friday morning at City Hall.
The position, which pays $400 a month, must be filled by Oct. 2.Garcia, who was voted into office in November of last year, was one of the youngest elected officials in the state. He was declared brain dead and his family took him off life support last week.
