SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Hurricane Ike has extended the stay of a college football team in Sacramento. The team from Texas Southern University was in town to play in the Capital City Football Classic at Sacramento City College. They were victorious in the game, ending a 16-game losing streak. However, the 88 people in the party can't get home to Houston to celebrate.
"They're saying some of the power is up and going in Houston, but not all of it, so it's a wait-and-see type of thing. But there is no power at our university right now, so it's impossible to go back there," assistant coach Daryl Williams said. The team travelled to Northern California with just enough clothes to last for a few days. They started last week at the Radisson Hotel, but couldn't extend there, and are now at the Marriott by Cal Expo."It's kind of tough, but like I was telling the team, we still have another game this week and we have to continue to be focused," quarterback Cornelius Harmon said. The team will fly from Sacramento to Dallas, practice there until Friday, then take a bus to Tyler, Texas. After that they may take a trip back to Houston, Texas, where the coast will be clear for them to get home on Sunday.Safety Zach Logan said he still has a paper to write, and will do that when he gets some free time.
