SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The California Environmental Protection Agency has released eating guidelines regarding fish caught in Folsom Lake and Lake Natoma.The study focuses on varying mercury levels found in local fish.Black bass and catfish were found to have higher levels of mercury than other species, the agency said.
Health officials said bigger, older fish usually have higher mercury levels than smaller fish.Fish that are fine to eat include trout under 16 inches, bluegill and sunfish.Women and children should avoid bass, salmon, catfish and trout over 16 inches.State officials are now offering brochures with those guidelines in several different languages.To read the health advisory, please click here.
