WOODLAND, Calif. -- A Northern California man got a Bronze Star on Tuesday for his combat bravery overseas -- nearly 64 years ago.Woodland resident and Army veteran David Gee fought in the Philippines and New Guinea during World War II.Army Col. Charlotte Miller corrected the oversight by awarding Gee his medal Tuesday at the Yolo County War Memorial as part of Veterans Day events.
A paperwork mixup was blamed for the delay.Gee, 85, went on to serve in the Korean War after joining the Navy following World War II.Gee called the honor "fantastic.""I didn't expect any of this, ever," Gee said. "It really makes me sort of happy that somebody had thought about me."Gee's wife and son attended for the ceremony.Members of the Tuskeegee Airmen on hand at the event also received honors.
