'Oceans Eleven' Heist Ends In 3 Arrests

2 Men Worked At Wells Fargo Bank In San Jose

Three San Jose men who were apparently inspired by the blockbuster "Ocean's Eleven" spent months planning a different kind of heist, police said.

The movie centered around a casino, but the San Jose robbery focused on a Wells Fargo Bank where two of the three men worked. The branch was located inside a Safeway on Story Road.

The payoff was in the six figures, according to police.

The heist worked for all of 14 hours.

That's when police swooped in and made three arrests. The "Ocean's" gang never was caught by authorities.

The suspects have been identified as Brian Tirao Deguzman, Allen Tam Vu and Armando Anaya Mendez. All of them are in their 20s.

San Jose police arrested the trio Wednesday night.

They are all about to spend a second night in the Santa Clara County Main Jail facing charges of burglary and grand theft.

Police said the three suspects confessed they hatched the scheme after watching "Ocean's Eleven," which stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon.

Here's how the crime went down, according to officers:

Vu, who did not work at the Wells Fargo branch, disguised in a baseball cap and sunglasses, simulated a robbery with Mendez. He walked Mendez inside, demanding that Mendez and Deguzman open the safe at the Wells Fargo branch. Vu put the money in a paper bag and walked away.

It was only a matter of hours before detectives determined that the employees were in on the robbery.

One of the problems with the plan was that Mendez had ordered a large amount of extra cash for the branch, which was unusual for this time of year.
