UPDATED: 11:16 pm PST November 18, 2008

A student is accused of shooting his 19-year-old classmate at a Ceres high school Tuesday evening, police said.

The victim, who attends adult school at Central Valley High School, was sitting on a bench in front of the school when at about 9:30 p.m. another student confronted him and allegedly opened fire, officials said.

The victim was hit multiple times in the torso, police said.

The accused shooter then fled the scene on foot.

The victim was taken to a nearby Chevron gas station where friends called 911.

He was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to survive his injuries, police said.

Police are still looking for the man wanted in connection with the shooting, who officials said they think is 18 or 19 years old.
