SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A thief driven to steal a car rammed another vehicle out of the way to successfully escape, Sacramento police said.

Police received a report that a residence in the 3800 block of 39th Street was robbed on Thursday.

A resident of the home discovered that his spare car keys and garage door opener had also been taken.

In an effort to prevent someone from returning to take his car, the resident asked a friend to park a another car across the driveway as a deterrent.

Police said a thief then returned, got into the resident's car and used it to push the friend's car out of the way.
