EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. -- First squirrels and pigeons, and now horses are testing contraceptives.The Grace Foundation in El Dorado Hills is taking part in a nationwide effort to help control the wild horse population.Nearly three dozen rescued mares had their blood drawn Monday. They'll be part of a group using contraceptives to control horse numbers.
"Our goal is, given that number, what can we do to make sure that horses that don't need to come into our care or the care of the Grace Foundation," the Humane Society's Holly Hazard said.The Humane Society was hosting a public meeting Monday night for anyone interested in learning about the project.
