UPDATED: 4:17 pm PST November 27, 2008

A 42-year-old woman crashed into a mailbox in Carmichael on Thursday, leaving her with major injuries.

Sacramento Metro Fire's James Van Brund said she was going west on Fair Oaks Boulevard near Day Drive just after 2 p.m.

But for some reason she veered into the oncoming lane and hit the mailbox, without braking.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, Van Brund said.

The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment. She was wearing her seat belt.
