CIM This Weekend; Watch For Street Closures

Some Sacramento Intersections To Be Blocked

POSTED: 12:07 pm PST December 2, 2008
UPDATED: 12:39 pm PST December 2, 2008

Watch for road closures around Sacramento this weekend as nearly 12,000 runners hit the streets for the 26th annual California International Marathon.

Full List: CIM Road Closures

The 26.2-mile race kicks off at 7 a.m. Sunday and finishes in front of the Capitol. Participants include 6,500 marathoners, 3,000 relay runners and 2,000 contestants in the Kaiser maraFunrun.

Organizers said motorists should expect large gaps after the first racer.

Other things to keep in mind:
  • Slower runners might fall behind the intersection reopen times listed. Those runners are considered pedestrians responsible for heeding normal traffic laws.
  • The finish line area around Capitol Mall and 8th, 9th and 10th streets will be closed from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Race organizers based their estimates for each intersection on a 3-minute-mile pace for the first racer, and a 14-minute-mile pace for the slowest. They also factored in the time it takes to remove road barriers once the slowest runner has passed.
