PLACER COUNTY, Calif. -- A citizen joined a Placer County deputy in catching a drunken-driving suspect who's accused of "wreaking havoc in the town of Penryn."Leon Eugene Wood, 43, sped past a deputy on Interstate 80 at about 100 mph Friday night, the sheriff's office said.The Iowa Hill resident pulled to the right shoulder of the road, according to a news release, but then he sped off in his Hyundai SUV.
Wood erratically changed lanes, then got off at Penryn Road and rear-ended another vehicle, the sheriff's office said.He hit another car before he bailed out and fled on foot, according to the release.The deputy and a witness chased down Wood about 150 yards away, the sheriff's office said.Someone inside one of the other vehicles complained of neck and shoulder pain.Wood was booked into the Placer County Jail on suspicion of reckless evading, hit-and-run with injuries, a driving-under-the-influence accident with injuries, resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license. He remains in custody on $30,000 bail.
