Shopper Has Purse Stolen In Mall Bathroom

Woman's Credit Cards Used At Wal-Mart

POSTED: 6:22 pm PST December 2, 2008
UPDATED: 10:31 am PST December 3, 2008

A woman shopping at the Arden Fair Mall on Sunday had her purse stolen from a department store bathroom.

Kimberly Nguyen said she walked into a bathroom stall on the second floor of the J.C. Penney department store, hung her purse on a hook and then saw someone reach over the stall door and take her purse.

"(It's) nervous and scary because they took all my money, credit and everything gone," Nguyen said.

The person who took Nguyen's purse used her cards to withdraw a total of $3,000 from her banks and used credit cards repeatedly at a Wal-Mart in Rancho Cordova, according to Nguyen's account receipts.

"I've been here nine years, and I've never had anything like that happen," said Steve Reed, head of security at Arden Fair Mall.

Even though Nguyen's purse was stolen inside a department store, Arden Fair security said they will try and help her by viewing J.C. Penney's surveillance video in hopes of spotting the person on Wal-Mart surveillance using Nguyen's cards.
