CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. -- A Sacramento Metro Fire District captain was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of using the Internet to exchange child pornography, Citrus Heights police said.Capt. Steven Campbell, 52, was arrested after a search was conducted at his home in the 4800 block of Polo Court in Fair Oaks.Campbell, whose Internet screen name was "Scorcher," was tracked down using the e-mail account, authorities said.
"We got information from a source in SoCal that they had received an image from that e-mail name, 'Scorcher,'" said Lt. Thomas Chaplin, of the Citrus Heights Police Department. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District was notified of the arrest and said in a news statement that they were "deeply saddened" that one of their employees had been arrested.Campbell, a 30-year veteran of the fire department, was recently placed on administrative leave; he subsequently retired when police started their child sexual exploitation investigation, fire officials said.Authorities seized Campbell's computer during a raid of his home, which could potentially lead to more charges depending on what is found.Campbell has been booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail and currently faces three felony charges and one misdemeanor charge.
