UPDATED: 5:36 pm PST December 3, 2008

A homeless shelter's delivery van that had $14,000 in holiday cards and wrapping paper inside was stolen Monday.

Someone drove off with the Opportunity Houses' van after a Christmas fundraiser.

Now the homeless program is out of fundraising materials.

The fundraiser is used as a way to move people into a new life, said Colleen Erdes, the shelter's director.

"Our goal in our program is to move clients from our homeless shelter into sustainable housing," Erdes said.

The theft also comes at a critical time for the shelter.

The Opportunity House is also having a festival of trees auction going on, which usually brings in 15 to 20 percent of the shelter's yearly operating budget.
