Support Pours In For Shackled Teen

Oakland Raiders Offer To Have Boy Attend Game

People from all over the nation have been asking officials in Tracy about how they can help a terrified teenage boy who showed up at a gym begging for help.

The boy had earlier been chained in a home and lived in filthy conditions as a captive, authorities said Wednesday.

Three people are under arrest for their alleged actions.

Tracy police spokesman Matt Robinson said officers wanted to make sure the boy could have something to call his own, so they pooled their money together and bought a Nintendo DS for him to play with while in the hospital.

Robinson also said staff at the police department have received numerous phone calls to offer help.

"This has touched all of us, I think everyone in the city who is a parent and actually everyone in the country that has heard about this case has been compelled to either send an e-mail, or send us a letter, or offer to help in some way," Tracy Police Chief Rick Golphin said.

The Oakland Raiders offered to have the boy attend a game. Another offer came in to help him fund a college education.

"We've had offers of clothing, education, money, people wanting to start funds ... people have offered him homes, offered him to come live with them," Golphi said.

Police also treated the half-starved teenager to a pizza in his hospital room.

The boy has since been released from the hospital and is back in Sacramento with Child Protective Services.

Anyone wishing to donate to a trust for the Tracy teen may contact Sacramento Child Advocates at 916-364-5686 and www.sacchildadv.org. Checks may be sent to SCA FBO Tracy Youth Fund, 8745 Folsom Blvd. Suite 150, Sacramento, CA 95826. Donors should mention the Tracy teen when writing a check.
