SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Two weeks after A Sacramento puppy store was raided and the owner arrested, two more people have been taken to jail for allegedly selling sick pets.
Animal control has removed 74 animals from The Puppy Store in Sacramento. One-third of the pets have developed parvovirus, and a few have died.
Authorities arrested Reed Carman (pictured, left) Thursday night on 12 counts of felony animal cruelty. He and his wife Kathy Carman, who was arrested two weeks ago on 11 counts of animal cruelty, operate the Auburn Boulevard business.
Authorities say that Kathy Carman (pictured, below) has operated her businesses under different aliases.
The store's manager has also been charged with eight counts of animal cruelty.
Prosecutors say that all three of the suspects have convictions for methamphetamine possession.
The SPCA and a rescue group are trying to nurse the animals back to health.
A business next to The Puppy Store unfurled a sign Friday that read "No more dead-puppy store," hoping to help keep the pet store closed.
And someone added captioning signs to the pictures of dogs on the store's windows that read "I have parvo" and "I'm already dead."
