Riverfront Revitalization Plan Approved

Plan Calls For More Bridges, Hotels, Restaurants And Office Space

POSTED: 3:42 p.m. PDT July 31, 2003
UPDATED: 8:51 a.m. PDT August 1, 2003

The city councils of Sacramento and West Sacramento voted Thursday night to approve a master plan to dramatically change the riverfront area.

The master plan to improve the riverfront calls for more bridges to connect the cities, and more hotels, restaurants and office space to attract people to that area.

The ideas have been in the works for years, but now both cities' leaders have said they are ready for action.

"If we adopt this plan this evening, we expect to move forward immediately with work to extend the riverfront promenades and parks on both sides of the river, additional fishing piers and boat docks. We are getting right down to business here to make this plan a reality," West Sacramento Mayor Christopher Cabaldon said Thursday.
