VALLEJO, Calif. -- A trainer at Six Flags Marine World in Vallejo is recovering at an area hospital after being gored by one of the elephants in his care.
Officials said Patrick Chapple, 39, was standing near an elephant named Misha Tuesday afternoon when the animal knocked him down and gored him with her tusk.
Chapple was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek with a wound that passed through his abdomen and out his back. His injures are not believed to be life-threatening.A park spokesman said Misha has been separated from the other elephants and has not shown any aggressive behavior since the attack.She is a 23-year-old African elephant and has been at the park for 21 years.Chapple has been a trainer at Six Flags Marine World for 13 years.
