STOCKTON, Calif. -- The fate of some Stockton youth football teams was voted on for a second time this week, and the outcome was not a happy one for 150 young players and cheerleaders.
National Youth Football League officials say the reason for the dismissal is out-of-control parents and a brawl among 20 parents on the Calgary Temple High School field in August.League officials gathered Thursday night for a second vote on the fate of the East Side Lions. And again, their season is over. Six other teams were at the meeting, and the vote was unanimous.KCRA 3's Grace Lee said many parents and coaches from the Lions team called her, saying they were upset that they were voted against twice and never got to defend themselves.Lions coaches say they'll still practice even if they've been kicked out the league."How can people come together for the common good of some children, and then all of a sudden some adults get to fighting and forget all about the children?" said Carl Coleman, parent of a Lions player.Other coaches KCRA 3 has spoken with said they feel terrible for the children, but they have to protect their own. They said they don't believe they have any control over the Lions parents. Some Lions parents are so angry, they say they're going to stage a protest at the football games on Saturday.
