SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A former Sacramento police officer was sentenced to prison Friday for sexually assaulting women while on duty.
A judge refused to grant Darryl Rosen a new trial, and instead sentenced him to 9 years and 8 months behind bars.
After handing down the sentence, Judge Gail Ohanesian told Rosen "This is not a close call. Instead of protecting and serving, you preyed upon women you thought did not matter to society. Your actions tarnished the badge of the Sacramento Police Department.""I think the court sends an effective message that if law enforcement gets caught doing things like this they will deal with them," said Peter Brixie, an attorney for one of the victims.Prosecutor Michael Nevis said in court Friday that he believes Rosen knows "in his heart of hearts what he did" and now "the whole world knows it, too."Rosen was convicted in July on nine felony counts, including three counts of sexual battery, four counts of assault by a police officer, one count of dissuading a witness and one count of false imprisonment.
