SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- If Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger decides to run for re-election next year, he is about to get his first challenger.
State Treasurer Phil Angelides' campaign office confirmed Thursday that he will announce next Tuesday his candidacy for governor, becoming the first Democrat to launch a campaign.
Angelides will make the announcement at Alice Birney Elementary School in Sacramento on March 14. The state treasurer has been one of the lone voices that has constantly challenged the governor ever since the recall election.
