SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Hundreds of California law officers and their families and friends paid homage at the state Capitol Friday to those who have died in the line of duty as part of Peace Officer Memorial Week. A procession marked the start of Friday's ceremony at the Capitol. Motorcycle officers headed up the procession. They were followed by block after block of patrol cars, filling the street three wide.
Mounted patrols also took part. President John F. Kennedy started Peace Officer Memorial Day in 1962. It has since become Peace Officer Memorial Week.
