WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The city of Sacramento is on the verge of getting another major attraction that could bring in millions of visitors every year.

Sacramento appears to be the preferred site for a new state Indian Museum, according to officials.

The California Indian Heritage Task Force held a meeting in West Sacramento Monday to discuss the location for the museum.

City officials told the task force that a California Indian Heritage Museum would be most welcome, and they promised maximum cooperation to make it a reality.

"This kind of thing I believe should be in the state capital. We have a number of other visitor attractions, a number of historic sites, a number of opportunities for people to learn about he rich heritage of California," said Sacramento Mayor Heather Fargo.

The leading concept is for an Indian center in two locations: one along Richards Boulevard and another across the American River near Northgate Boulevard. A pedestrian bridge would connect them.
