FOLSOM, Calif. -- A major marijuana-growing operation was discovered in Folsom Monday, police said.

Officers in a California Highway Patrol helicopter spotted the plants in a wetland area between Glenn and Parkshore drives.

More than 50 plants were cut down and removed from the site.

Police said the operation was unusual and the largest bust in the city this year.

"It's not common for Folsom. This is the first one that I'm aware of. There are some marijuana farms in areas such as this, but just not in our city," Folsom Police Department spokesman Kurt Knudsen said.

Investigators said they have no leads on who was growing the marijuana, but they believe the plants were on private property. However, the property is close to a public bike trail.
