Married Couple To Serve As State Lawmakers

Couple From Southern California

At least two of the more than three dozen new lawmakers sworn into the California Legislature on Monday should have no problem carpooling to work.

Husband-and-wife Audra and Tony Strickland, who are from Southern California, will both serve in the state legislature as Republicans.

"We'll get to be spending the night in the same bed seven nights a week," said Audra Strickland, who was re-elected as a member of the state Assembly. "We're looking forward to serving together."

Thirty-nine new members were sworn into office in ceremonies on the Assembly and Senate floors Monday.

Many of them, including Tony Strickland, already know their way around the Capitol.

Strickland joined 11 incoming Senators who have served in the Assembly.
