TRACY, Calif. -- Visiting the drive-thru at a Tracy Wendy's fast food restaurant has made one customer $12,000 richer. Now he's wanted by the police.
An employee mistakenly handed the customer a bag filled with the cash Wednesday.
"Whoever got the bag of money, by the state, they're not legally entitled to it. Could face criminal charges, perhaps felony charges," Tracy Police Lt. Mike Maciel said.
The money was in the same kind of paper bag Wendy's puts food in.
"Apparently (it's a) busy time for (the) crew. Someone set down the bag. Someone else picked it up," Maciel said.
Police hope to find the customer with the help of surveillance equipment.
"The customer is a white male adult in his 20s, driving a black sports utility vehicle," Maciel said.
There is no question the mistake has cost Wendy's a lot of money. But if the customer doesn't come forward, he could end up paying an even bigger price.
