SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Horse tranquilizers and a refrigerator were among the new evidence released Friday in the ever-changing case of murdered Sacramento attorney Larry McNabney.
County authorities have issued an arrest warrant for McNabney's wife, Elisa. They believe that she killed her husband by poisoning him with horse tranquilizers.
"We are charging Elisa McNabney with first-degree murder with special circumstances, poisoning, with a motive for financial gain," San Joaquin County Sheriff Baxter Dunn said. They also said that Elisa (pictured, below) stored her husband's dead body in a refrigerator before burying him in a shallow grave in a vineyard near Linden.
"We also believe, based on forensic evidence, that his body was preserved by refrigeration between September and the three to six weeks before his body was found," Dunn said.Laurence McNabney disappeared in September while competing in a Southern California horse show. Witnesses said that the following day, his wife was giving away his show clothes and personal belongings. And the woman, who detectives said uses 11 different aliases and 11 different social security numbers, didn't stop there."Elisa McNabney forged client settlement checks and deposited them to her account, signed a signature on legal documents, affectively maintaining, over a period of several months, his law practice, emptied out client trust funds," Dunn said.In all investigators think that Elisa McNabney could be traveling with at least $500,000.
Investigators do not believe that Elisa acted alone. They think that she is on the run with her daughter, 17-year-old Haley Jordan (pictured, left).A $10,000 reward is now being offered in the search for Elise McNabney.Starting next week, investigators will try and bring national attention to the murder. They'll be working with film crews from America's Most Wanted and Unsolved Mysteries.
