SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A federal warrant was issued Monday night for the arrest of the wife of a Sacramento lawyer found murdered in a shallow grave.
Elisa McNabney, 35, is wanted by the FBI for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Murder charges were brought against her last week after autopsy results linked her with the death of her husband, Larry McNabney, 53.
Officials said the federal warrant will expand the search, and enlist the federal agency's domestic and foreign resources.
Detectives in San Joaquin County said they believe Elisa McNabney killed her husband of six years with a lethal dose of horse tranquilizer sometime after Sept. 10, when he was last seen at a Los Angeles County horse show.
Detectives said they believe his body was refrigerated for several months while his wife accumulated at least $500,000 by selling his property, cleaning out trust funds and forging checks at his law practice.
Then, in late December or early January, detectives said she buried him in a shallow grave in a San Joaquin County vineyard.
Police said Elisa McNabney has used several Social Security numbers and several aliases. She was last seen in January leaving the couple's Lodi-area home. She has known ties to Florida and Nevada.
