Student is assigned to the Assignment Editor in the newsroom to work 20 hours per week, (16 hours for the weekend positions), on various shifts. This general position is usually assigned to students interested in news reporting, or assignment editing.

Qualifications:

Student should be of junior standing and should have completed at least some core course work in a communications related field. No prior experience is necessary. Student must have good people skills and be highly motivated.

Duties:

The student works with the news staff, specifically the assignment desk, answering phones, and researching stories and information for viewers. The student may be assigned to accompany reporters and/or news photographers on assignment, or assist a news producer with production chores. Occasionally, the student takes news feeds and performs other news gathering functions as assigned by the supervisor.

Shifts:

Position #1: Monday - Friday 7 a.m. - 11 a.m.
Position #2: Monday - Friday 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Position #3: Monday - Friday 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Position #4: Monday - Friday 5 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Position #5: Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
